Your New Lifestyle Resolution For 2010

- By Cheryl Scott

OK, it is that time of year again - Did you make a New Year's Resolution?

When the New Year rolls around - do you get heart palpations, nervous tremors - knowing that you are supposed to make some sort of pledge for the coming year? This is the year that I will __________________ you can fill in the blank.

You know I tend to wonder if we get it all wrong. Maybe the New Year really is that time to just reflect on our past year, look at our accomplishments, our family, friends and really take stock of all the blessings we have in our lives. Maybe as we assess what is truly important to us we will think about making changes to impact our lives in a positive manner. Perhaps looking at making realistic changes, things that we can actually live with. Maybe this year I will get in better shape, eat better, exercise and just take better care of me. Maybe I should consider volunteering more - give back to my community in some way. Maybe there is an older neighbour that I could help support - shovel their walkway. Or maybe you know of a young couple struggling who could use a free babysitter for an evening out. Maybe 2010 is the year where we stop looking inward and start to look outward...as one famous person said - "Ask not what..." you know the rest!

Here at the YWCA we are celebrating our One Hundredth Anniversary, what a milestone. Imagine 100 years of service to Calgary and area women and children. 100 years dedicated to making the lives of others just a little bit easier. Maybe we can look at just doing one year - one year dedicated to making a difference - no matter how small. You will be amazed at how good it makes you feel.

Wishing you a wonderful year through 2010, may it bring true happiness, peace and a sense that you do make a difference - because you do! Congratulations!!
